Daring Decisions In Darlington Lead To Another Solid Finish

It was throwback week at Darlington in the AREA IRacing Truck Series, so the trucks had some recognizable old paint schemes. Hankamp was coming off a top 10 finish and was looking to follow it up with another strong run. He was feeling confident with his #67 rolling in circa the 1984 Buddy Arrington Pocono paint scheme. Hankamp backed the slick look of the truck with some equally slick driving and race strategy.

Hankamp was the talk of the race for a while when he made the controversial decision not to pit with most of the other drivers. Many, including the announcers, thought that he had made a grave mistake. He traded new tires for track position, going all the way from deep in the 20's to 1st place. Granted, 1st place, heck even the top 10, didn't last long on his old tires. But he set the tone for his race, doing it his way and believing in his strategy. While the broadcast crew continued to question his team's decision, Hankamp let the #67 do the talking.

A good race always involves a little luck to, and Hankamp got some. Drivers got aggressive on the last lap and the accident was inevitable. He stood his line through the chaos and came out cleanly on the other end, finishing in a very respectable 11th place. We saw Hankamp's upside as a young driver in the first few races and now we are starting to see the results. It will be exciting to see how he develops as a racer through the rest of the season.

JRS Racing had a tremendous night as a whole, finishing with 3 drivers in the top 11!
