Elite Defensive Performances

It is/was the last weekend of grassroots season, and the action was as exciting as ever. While the offensive highlights are as plentiful as ever, we're going to focus on the defensive end of the floor. There were some players from Michigan that really locked down on D.

Kassidy Cain (2028, G, Lady FVV, Detroit Renaissance)

The guard is a dynamic highlight reel on the offensive end, but she deserves credit for the 2 way player that she can be as well. All word is that she was a pest on the defensive end this weekend at The Finale. Cain flaunted fast feet that allowed her to play a waterbug style of defense. She showed that she could effectively pressure ball handlers.

Colbie Elkins (2027, G/F, Michigan Cobras 2026, Morenci)

Elkins and her Michigan Cobras squad were in Brighton , MI this weekend. Elkins has really impressed me on the defensive end throughout grassroots season and apparently she was at it again. She has that lockdown mindset and toughness on that end of the floor. Elkins is willing to sell out on D and doesn't take a defensive possession off.

Mallory Woiteshek (2027, C, MBA UAA, Grand Havem)

Here's that name again. Woiteshek is, in my opinion, having 1 of the best grassroots seasons of any player in the state. And her defense is a large part of that. Her blocked shots are always a part of the occasion and are once again. But if you look deeper, you see her smooth defensive footwork in the paint and her tremendous, almost instinctual, positioning in the paint on D.

Myla Talladay (2028, F, Michigan Storm 28, Saline)

Talladay is getting a lot of run for her offensive performance this weekend and deservedly so. But let's not ignore the other end of the court. She's able to be highly influential on defense simply with her energy, effort and intensity. Not too mention that she's athletic and versatile enough to defend all over the floor.
