It was a big weekend or Michigan's class of 2027. There were a good number of players from this class that impressive performances during grassroots ball. The class of 2027 in the mitten state represented itself very well with players showing off their talents and skills. We're going to look at a few of the 2027's that were weekend stars with their on court performances.
Layla Babich (2027, G, Michigan Goonies 16u, Romeo)
Babich is a player that is accustomed to playing great basketball during grassroots season. She did it last year and seems to be at it again this spring. Babich has a knack for finding and creating buckets and can score physically and athletically around the rim. She scored 12 points in a big Goonies win over the weekend.
Jozelynn Begick (2027, G/F, Michigan Mystics 2027 S40, Freeland)
Begick was a leader in her team's impressive 5-0 weekend in Pennsylvania. The long and athletic wing got the job done on both ends of the court. Begick shut down her opponent defensively and was a big factor on the boards. Offensively, she both shot and passed at a very high level. Begick hit 6 triples in 1 game over the weekend.
Sophie Mator (2027, G, Michigan Prospects, Carleton Airport)
Apparently the young lady from Airport took off this past weekend. I've been familiar with Mator's game since before she stepped into high school and she continues to impress. I've always loved her shot selection and ability to find, take and make good looks at the rim. That must have been in effect again as all word from grassroots ball is that she shot the lights out.
Sydney Savoury (2027, G, Michigan Crossover, Belleville)
To sum it up quite simply - One of the best players in the EYBL Session 1. Savoury has been at times unstoppable, against some of the best competition in the country and she's getting buckets with both physicality and finesse. The way Savoury's been playing and played over the weekend.......A top 30 ranking nationally doesn't do her justice.
Elliana VanDusen (2027, G/F , MBA UAA 2027)
VanDusen caught some eyes with her play over the weekend. She has and showed tremendous offensive footwork and patience to match. VanDusen showed that she can cut and catch free throw line and work off of 2 feet. VanDusen has the mental game to match her more than solid physical skills and skill set.
